About the meeting

We would like to invite you to the 25th Brazilian Palaeontology Congress, to be held in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, from the 17th to 21st of July, 2017.

The "Brazilian Palaeontology Congress" is the main scientific meeting sponsored by the Brazilian Palaeontological Association (SBP). Its first edition occurred in 1959, and the 24 previous meeting took place in many different parts of the country, including Acre, Alagoas, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, and Santa Catarina. For two times, the CBP was held in São Paulo state: in 1991 at the Geosciences Institute of Unversidade de São Paulo, in São Paulo, and in 1997 at the Fazenda Fonte Colina Verde Hotel, in São Pedro. Hence, after 20 years, the Brazilian Palaeontology Meeting comes back to São Paulo.

The "Brazilian Palaeontology Congress" will be organized by the Paleontology Lab, Biology Department, FFCLRP/USP, but its "Organizing Committee" also include palaeontologists from two other universities: UNESP (Bauru and Ilha Solteira campi) and UFSCar (Sorocaba campus).

The meeting theme, "Life in Deep Time: evolution via fossils", aims at stressing the major contribution of Palaeontology to the studies of Evolution, something that is not frequency highlighted during the Brazilian Palaeontology Congresses.

The meeting will be held at the Ribeirão Preto campus of Universidade de São Paulo, more precisely at the Law School auditorium, which was the required structure to receive the event.
