Josué Camargo Mendes Award

JOSUÉ CAMARGO MENDES AWARD

Paleontologist Josué Camargo Mendes made his scientific career at the University of São Paulo (USP). He carried out research mainly with fossil invertebrates, and was one of the paleontologists who most engaged in the teaching of paleontology in Brazil, publishing the first textbooks in the area, which contributed to the formation of several generations of paleontologists.
The book General Paleontology by Josué Camargo Mendes, as well as other titles of his own , supported the formation of the generation of Brazilian paleontologists graduated between the 70's and 90's.
The Brazilian Society of Paleontology will award the award Joshua Camargo Mendes for students to present the best papers at the Brazilian Congress of Paleontology, conferred in three categories: undergraduate, masters and doctorate , according to rules established by a commission established for this purpose.

Student awards are a high time for any scientific society as they are the future of the organization. The award Joshua Camargo Mendes awarded by the Brazilian Society of Paleontology to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Brazilian paleontology congresses.
O Josué Camargo Mendes Prize was established at the XVI Brazilian Congress of Paleontology, held in the city of Crato (Ceará), in August 1999. After an interruption of 16 years, the prize was again awarded in 2015, at the XXIV Brazilian Congress of Paleontology, again occurred in the city of Crato.

GENERAL RULES
1) Only students who are associated b> a SBP;
2) The work presented must contain the student as only author . The advisor (s) should only be indicated, both on the registration for presentation;
3) A student may only compete in one category, with registration limited to one work;
4)
A student may only be awarded once per category during their training;
5) Enrollment and submission work shall comply with the rules stipulated by the organizing committee of each congress. For the XXVI Brazilian Congress of Paleontology, see rules here ;
The award will be stipulated by the Brazilian Society of Paleontology, together with the organizing committee of each congress;
7) The prize evaluation committee, made up of at least three members, will be nominated by the organizing committee of each congress. The participation of student advisor candidates for the award is not allowed to participate in the evaluation committee.
8) The award ceremony will be held during the SBP general assembly at the respective congress;
9 ) Missing cases will be reviewed by the evaluating committee and the congress organizing committee.
Standards for awards in the undergraduate category:

1) A The presentation should be done in poster format, which will be presented by the student to the evaluation committee at the time determined for this session according to the general schedule of each congress; 2 2 / Poster dimensions must comply with the rules established by the organizing committee of each congress. 3) Winners of this category in past editions will not be able to compete again for the prize;
4) The submitted paper should be unpublished ( no published );
5) The work will be evaluated according to the following criteria: , content , graphic presentation and theme domain .

Rules for Awards in the Master and Doctorate (Postgraduate) categories:

1) The presentation should be in oral format; 2) The time for submission, including time for questions, should be respected according to

3 ) Winners of this category in past editions will not be able to compete again for the prize;
4) The work submitted must be unpublished (not published);
5) The work will be evaluated according to the following criteria: originality , content , graphic presentation and theme domain .
